The vision to master-plan and build an entire community on the Duda family's Cocoa Ranch began to take shape in the mid-1980s. The family knew this long-term project would take a lot of faith to achieve: thus, the name of the town, Viera, which means faith in the Duda family's native Slovak language.

The goal of Viera's master plan is to accommodate the quality of life values sought by its new residents. Many individuals are helping achieve this goal. From the outset, the community has had the benefit of a single master developer, The Viera Company, which has provided consistency and continuity in the planning and development of the community.
