Making The Grade
In every school in the Brevard County School District, the faculty and the student body are governed by a philosophy that fosters an environment of learning with high academic and character-building standards.
Schools in Viera have maintained their 'A' rating because the students, teachers and parents are involved and want to challenge and enrich their motivated students to succeed. Faith based private schools are located within a reasonable distance in the Rockledge and Melbourne areas. Magnet and choice schools are also offered as a choice for parents seeking non-traditional curriculums while still achieving the county high standards for excellence in education.
The awards each school has earned on the county, state, and national level continue to prove how important it is for each school to seek out new educational goals each year. Brevard is one of only two fully accredited school districts in the state and is third in the nation in percentage of teachers holding National Board Certification. Many schools offer advanced programs in English, mathematics and science helping many students graduate high school with an associates degree before they seek out a college or university. Voluntary pre-kindergarten, or VPK, gives toddlers, hungry for knowledge and interaction, an opportunity to stretch and grow their new minds. VPK is offered at several day-care centers in Viera. Higher learning can be found at the nearby University of Florida satellite campus, Florida Institute of Technology, Keiser College, Webster University and at Brevard Community College, less than seven miles from Viera.
The business community strongly supports the local schools by participating in various fund-raisers and events. Community involvement reaches beyond the classroom discussion with students from every grade level encouraged to participate in their community, learning the value of leadership and responsible citizenship.
