The Brevard County Board of County Commissioners voted last Thursday night to delay final votes on the West Viera Development Order and its related Comprehensive Plan Amendments until its next regular meeting on Tuesday, December 15. The Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the expansion of the Viera community will also be considered for approval at that meeting.
Following a presentation by The Viera Company, public comments and a discussion period, the board decided to take the additional time to review all final revisions to the Development Order before calling for a final vote to approve the plan.
The Development Order for the West Viera Expansion Area is a contract between The Viera Company and the county for future development of the area known as West Viera. The DO provides an overall development plan that calls for a balance of protected lands and innovative residential villages, an interconnected transportation network to create easy access to shopping, schools and services, commercial centers and recreational areas. The plan also stipulates funding by The Viera Company of infrastructure within the community, including a storm water management system, roads and a water delivery system. Millions of dollars are also committed to fund and construct improvements to existing regional roadways impacted by the next phase of development. The Viera Company will continue to work with the Brevard County schools to meet capacity requirements for elementary, middle and high schools in Viera.
Proposed Comprehensive Plan Amendments will allow for the smart growth development that is proposed in the plan.
The PUD zoning agreement with county will allow the proper zoning for the development planned.
