Viera High School
Green and gold streamers and cries of “We did it!” fill the air at the first Viera High School graduation ceremony.

The threat of rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the first 402 students to graduate from Viera High School during the outdoor ceremony on May 29.  “The Lord shone brightly on Viera,” said Tracy Duda-Chapman, CEO of The Viera Company, who participated as a Distinguished Guest at the commencement exercises.  “It was very exciting – you could just feel it,” Chapman said about the milestone celebration which was held on the field at the school’s Hawk Stadium.

Viera High School Principal Mark Tormoen presided over the awarding of diplomas to the school’s first graduating class, which included five Principal’s Scholars – students who achieved straight A’s from grades 9 through 12, and five students whose dual enrollment earned them a Brevard Community College Associate of Arts degree along with their high school diploma. Over $3 million in scholarships was awarded to the class of 2009.

Exhibiting ultimate patience, the final six members of the Class of 2009 received their diplomas. Left to right: Amy Lauren Zoons, Blake Oakley Zippi, Zachary Austin Zimmer, Krista Ann Ziehler, Kelly Nicole Zelna and Jerrell Jerome Young II.

Following the ceremony, more than 200 of the graduates reveled at Project Graduation, an all night party at the Health First Pro-Health & Fitness Center in Viera.  Lots of food and a variety of games with prizes totaling over $6,000 kept the party going until 4:30 a.m.

Viera High School Party
Over 200 graduates were treated to a special party made possible by contributions from Viera High School community partners throughout Viera.

Janet Antoon, coordinator of the 2009 Project Graduation said, “Community partners are key to the celebration. Viera High School Project Graduation believes: Community partners make it possible, parents make it happen, our kids make it worth it.”

Congratulations to the very special Class of 2009!

Viera Hospital, Medical Office Building on the Rise
The cornerstone of a 100-bed, acute care hospital in Viera was set in place during an official ceremony on May 29. Officials from Health First joined Brevard County Commissioners and representatives from The Viera Company for the ceremony, which also included breaking ground for a three-story medical office building which will be adjacent to the hospital.

The hospital and medical office building are part of Viera Health Park, an integrated 50-acre campus on Wickham Road and Lake Andrew Drive. The Health First Pro-Health & Fitness Center, the first facility on the campus, opened last fall. Viera Hospital is scheduled to open in 2011.  The medical office building will open in 2010.
